Hey gang, I got a DVD review published here at Socal.com. It's a review of the Planet Terror release. I'm also working on handmade search pages for Mahalo.com. Hooray! Building up my writing portfolio. There's also a new short story that I'll be finishing up the first draft by Wednesday...

Plus, of course, writing new sketches for DK4 coming up in January of '08! So much going on!!!

Catching Up

Does anyone really read this blog? I don't really keep up on it, and I occasionally will think about it, and only then sometimes will I update. Well, here's an update.

Since last we spoke, DK 3 opened and ran for a good three weekends. The show was received very well, but not as big of a commercial hit as our prior two shows. We're working on fixes for our next outing - a Best Of show coming up Thanksgiving weekend.

The fire work is coming along, I'm into advanced workshops and I may have my first paying gig at the end of the month. Also, I'm helping out at Decom this weekend, which I am very excited to be a part of.

Matt & I are beginning work on the fourth DK show, slated to open early next year.

I've been writing a bit -- working on a few stories and screenplays. Painting is on deck, as well as finally getting a nice SLR camera to shoot with.

Life is good. While I'm not currently employed, I feel like I'm working harder than I ever have.

It Has Been A While

Yes? Yes. Things have really changed a bit. I still do the acting, DK is still alive (albeit smaller: minus Nobori and Candi), we've got a show coming up September 14, but now I'm focusing on more movement kinds of things. For the past several months, I've been studying Poi and fire eating and it's been coming fantastically. I love it. Within a year, I'll be making a large portion of my income through it.

In other news, I was in a new Elders Of The Scroll short a few weekends ago, DK shot some stuff I'm editing right now, and I'm writing like a madman, trying to tie-up the new show. So much indeed.

Oh yeah, and No Exit sort of died on arrival a couple months ago, there just wasn't the time between the cast and the director/producer to make it happen. Maybe someday.

No Exit, Children Of Scum, DK!

So much happening in the land of Greg...

1. I have been asked to be a part of the revival of the Haven Theatre Company... plans are to put up a production of No Exit in June and I have been offered the part of Garcin. Word.

2. The Children Of Scum trailer is now available online. This film is actually going to be pretty funny, I think. "Have you ever had tea?"

3. The Dynamite Kablammo Official website is now up and operating, please give us a visit!

4. Just finished some new artwork -- the water girl from the 8/05 dream looks pretty amazing.

Things are happening, friends... and tomorrow I audition for Kaiser Permanente... wish me luck.

Been A Long Time

And no update... sorry about that. The professional life has been taking some turns. The DK returning show went smashingly, great crowds, fantastic show, and the DVD of the footage is just about done. DK is currently taking a break as predicted... Matty, Candi, and I are meeting every other week currently, writing some new stuff (already good, though).

I've been spending most of my time recently writing and working with kids. I submitted a couple essays to Common Ties, and I'll keep doing that. I'm finishing up a story for First Line Literary Journal, and I'm also working on a play for my friend Reena.

Planet Bravo has started and that's eating up most of my energy, but I am loving it. I'm hoping I can squeeze a full-time gig out of this, it's good good work.

Oh yeah, and last month, I worked on a new SoCal Film Group project, Children Of Scum, which is going to be fantastic.

DK One More Time

The initial Dynamite Kablammo run went over incredibly well at the ZJU. The last two weeks of January were full of hilarity as we packed in the paying customers ... sadly having to turn away several people on our final night. The good news is, we've been invited back for three more shows! So, starting this Thursday night, the DK returns to the ZJU for three more shows, hoping that the people who wanted to come back could do so, and those who missed us in the first run could come back and catch us. Hooray! Then we're probably taking a bit of a hiatus as I leave town, Nobori leaves town, Dane does a different show... we're looking at maybe an August start up date for the next show...

DK Day 2006

9 to 9. 12 hours of Dynamite Kablammo goodness happened today in a tiny suburb of Los Angeles known as Sherman Oaks. The gang met at 9 this morning for donuts and coffee, then promptly (an hour later) got to filming some of the sweet sketches from our first show (finally).

First on the docket, we nailed SPIES out in the park in record time, headed back to the apartment on Woodman where we banged out CUM IN PANTS (so much humping!), took a little break, then we captured the family-fun antics of THE COUPLE. Woooweee!

Looking at the footage, we got some hot stuff and once it's all edited, you will know ASAP.

After the shooting, we sat down with the stack of freshly written sketches for the new show (Jan 18th!) and the cast reunited for the first initial script reading... and, I gotta say, it went smashingly.

Next week is the casting process and after that, it's all rehearsals until the big opening.

And, of course, the ADA awards are tomorrow night... keep your eyes posted!

Things Starting Up Again

Another month and another new homepage. The past month has been full of massive changes for me, professionally. Most stunning was leaving my restaurant job of nearly five years so that I could better pursue the things that I came out here to do.

I've currently got a small pile of short stories that I'm working on, I just got hired by Mad Science to work with kids doing sweet science experiments, there are plans to do some DK shooting of short films in the works, rumors of a one-shot DK show at The Gig, and of course... the big Dynamite Kablammo show in January! You will not want to miss this.

Of course, the Dk store is still open, ready for your business... we've sold a few shirts and they look great!

Down With The Update

Since the DK show blew up, I've been horrendously neglegent of the webpage(s). Here's a brief update:

DK did a half show for a big fundraiser at Rae's Lounge in Venice on Sept. 16th.
Matt, Candi, and I are hard at work, writing the new show.
The new show is currently slated to open on January 18, 2007 at the ZJU.
I've been working on my writing -- just finished my third draft of "Bookshop" and my second draft of "The Room".

I think that's about it. But that's enough. More coming soon!

DK Is (ahem) Blowing Up!

Just to let you all know, Dynamite Kablammo, has exploded onto the North Hollywood scene.

Our first weekend, you know about, our second weekend - BSW came in and reviewed the big show, the following night, the 25th, the theater was completely sold out, some industry folks were there and they loved the show too. Things are going super great for the DK, I tell ya.

In the meantime, we've auditioned for the Los Angeles Fest of Sketch, and then on to the big HBO Festival in Aspen, Colorado.

Keep up with the DK, don't be left in the dust.

Time marches on as Dynamite Kablammo approaches. This Sunday, the cast reunites at the Zombie Joe Underground to begin getting acquainted with the theater and our sketches. Getting a little nervous and very excited. This is really happening. A stack of postcards are going out next Monday. Or maybe Saturday. Who knows.

In other news, I've broken up with Marian... I now have no representation but, *shrug*, I'd rather be free than to keep getting called for jobs in the OC I'm just going to turn down anyway. Meh. When DK's over, I just want to get back to my writing.

DK Crew Update

This week, it was confirmed that the amazing John Nobori will be joining Dynamite Kablammo's maiden voyage as our tech guy. I am so relieved.

In other news, Jason and I are currently sticking with the TWELVE project... we're going to keep working on our script, and assuming that all continues to go well with the production, filming of our short will commence in the middle of September.

Been A Long Time

Over the past month and a half, I've been on a bit of a personal break. DEALER closed on June 17th, and since then I've been focused on my new comedy venture - Dynamite Kablammo.

Since DEALER closed, I've been meeting regularly with Matt DeNoto and Candida Rodriguez, the other 2/3 of the core of DK, and we've written a pretty solid stack of funny, which will be ready to serve come August 17th (exactly a month from today!). Various things have happened over the past weeks... cast members leaving, joining, not being able to stay, new cast members coming in, members going out of town... all kinds of fun stuff, but we are complete now - Dane Biren and Dana DeRuyck joined us last night, and after a successful 3 hour rehearsal, I'm very pleased to say that they're in.

More on DK as it develops.

At the same time, Jason Deppen and I (former Treehouse members... well, I suppose we're still technically members of Treehouse, but that production company hasn't had a meeting in probably six months) hd been asked to be a part of a fancy film project called TWELVE, but over the past few weeks, there have been numerous shedule changes, debates over scripts, and with me becoming more consumed with DK, and Jason having to move... as of today, we've decided to leave the project.

My agent hasn't called me since Memorial Day and so I'm currently debating breaking our contract. The letter's written, we're at our six month point, and as much as I adore her, the few times she has called me, it's been for corporate gigs in Orange County... hardly anything that will either pay well or advance my career. More on this as it develops.

And after DK runs, the new Zombie Joe Underground production of Dan Dixon will be up in October, and it's looking like I may be joining that cast. Again, more on this as it develops.

So much for my "break", eh?

Reviews For Dealer

So, the majority of the reviews for The Dealer Was Showing Six are out, and while the reviews are adequate, not amazing, and that's a bit disappointing, all three reviews I've read (reviewplays.com, LA Weekly, and Backstage West) all make special mention of my performance! Hooray! This is so exciting to me, to finally get mention as an individual standout performance in a show. This has largely to do with the writing, for one thing (thank you, Bill!), but I'm so glad I was able to bring the writing home.

Day After Memorial Day

I started my day with an audition for a DirectTV ad which went fairly well, and then I went to the set of Lisa Hammer's new project, POX. She asked me last week if I wanted to come in and do a cameo, and I did -- had a fantastic time, played a Roman Centurian. I can't wait to see the final movie, I'm not toally sure what it's about, but I know it has something to do with a gay Satan worshipper, time travel, and Messiahs.

Dealer Opens!

The Dealer Was Showing Six opened at the ZJU this weekend to nearly sold out houses! Not bad for a Memorial Day Holday Weekend. On Friday, there were three reviewers in the audience, so hopefully this will bode well for the show. One review is up and you can catch it here.

My favorite part: "Greg Kaczynski plays Dr. Garrick Quaratoli, but walks off with the scenes as the casino drunk who gets in everyone's business."

When I was first given the script, I said to my roommate that my goal was to steal the show, and it seems that at least reviewer thinks I did just that when I was onstage, on fire, and doing my thing. Huzzah!

Overall, I think the show is a success, and I am so excited for everyone to come out and check it out. It's only going to get better!!

Happenings At The Greg's

Tomorrow, May 24th, is the airing of my Days Of Our Lives episode. I'm a pilot!

This weekend, Friday, to be exact, is the opening night for the world premiere of William Norrett's new play, The Dealer Was Showing Six. Come out and check out the show! It's really funny, and I am so proud to be a part of this production -- PLUS, the tickets are only $10... you can't beat that for a weekend night in LA! (More info on the sidebar)

Next week, I'll be doing a one-day shoot on a Lisa Hammer project, POX, a couple line cameo which sounds very interesting. I'll let you all know more as I know more.

Is PENNY Finally Going To Be Done?

Tonight, I did some final ADR work for Kyle Blair-Alton's Thesis film, PENNY, in Kyle's closet. We filmed last summer -- in June -- and it was really great to work on, very challenging, and so I am incredibly excited to see this all cut together. Very nice to add to my reel, no doubt.

Today, I got called in to meet with Fran Bascom, the casting director for The Days Of Our Lives, I'm not totally sure how it happened, but I know she's on my hit list of CD's that I constantly send postcards to and I also know that she comes to the ZJU so she's seen me in probably three productions recently.

In any case, she wanted to meet with me, we met -- she's a really lovely woman, quite possibly the nicest I've met so far in this sometimes dreary business -- I read for her, and I'm doing an "under five" role on Thursday (This means that I get under five lines, it's an industry thing).

I play a pilot and you will only actually see me for one of the lines, but HEY! Exciting, yes?

The Tell Tale Heart Opens Wide

ZJU's Edgar Allan Poe's The Tell Tale Heart opened tonight to a completely sold out house. People were turned away. And the show itself was a terrific success, everything came together in a most lovely fashion.

Afterwards, I celebrated a fantastic week with lasagne and meatballs at Little Tony's.

Marian called me on Monday to see if I could do a non-dialogue gig in Coto De Caza today for $500. I said yes. Turns out it was a day of shooting lil' vignettes for a late-night infomercial (hosted by none other than Gary Collins). And yes, I got to do the bit as the oh-so tired office worker who gets the stack of papers dropped on the desk (more work!?).

Gary wasn't there, but the cats and crew were fantastic, the food was lovely, and I gotta say, it was the easiest 500 clams I ever done made.

New Show At The ZJU!

The details are out, the new Zombie Joe Underground, in which I will be featured, will go up for THREE SATURDAYS! APRIL 22, 29, and MAY 6! 8pm, tickets, as always, a paltry $10.

This will be a theatrical reading of the Edgar Allen Poe classic, THE TELL-TALE HEART, including original music and fantastic performances from some of your favorite ZJ members.

Script Finalist

My short script, "Horoscopes", the story of a school teacher obsessed with horoscopes and what happens the day he can't access his personal reading, has been chosen along with five other scripts as a finalist in the River City Write Off. Wow.

I'm currently revising bits of the script to get it in tip-top shape for the final round.

No Rest For The Greg K

So the opening weekend of Urban Death was hot, awesome, and mostly full. People love it and you will too when you come out and see it.

This, my birthday week, continues on the current Greg K standard of being f-ing busy. Yesterday morning I shot a USC grad film as a cop chasing a pickpocket through downtown LA (truly an adventure), today I had an audition for another short, Thursday I've got a callback, who knows how many auditions I'll have on the weekend in between UD:VM shows, and on Wednesday of next week, I'll heading down to Costa Mesa to meet with Marion Berzon of the Berzon Agency.

Hopefully this will go better than the Melissa Cohen ordeal of last year.

I'm busy, friends, and will remain so until I am not.

Urban Saturday

Urban Death opened to a near full house last night and people seemed to like the macabre sampler we offered. I was pretty happy with the show, there were a few technical issues, but nothing we won't overcome tonight and for the rest of the run.

Both of the auditions went fairly well this morning, the first one at UCLA went... okay... but the second went very well. I'm going for a callback on Thursday.

Back to the theater in four hours... hooray!

The Copficer

After a series of auditions that I absolutely nailed, I booked one to film next Monday. The Officer is a short film in which the director will not be giving us full scripts, it's a bit experimental and I'm excited to be working with a director who is interested in letting actors truly work. I'll be playing the Officer and they're renting an authentic cop uniform for me. HOT!

Been pretty busy lately, hit three auditions this weekend, another one waiting tomorrow (I need to refresh myself on the 'Shoes' monologue for it). I'm currently fighting an ear infection (and winning), and my new-ish printer just broke.

50 Hour Come And Gone

The 50 Hour Drive-By is over (finally). It was a huge, exhausting success. We over sold out Saturday night, sold out Sunday, and had a pretty full house last night. Our show, "Folly Of Love Fulfilled", was easily the strangest of the five, being penned by ZJ himself, but, after all is said and done, I'm pretty proud of the damn thing.

Well, here it is, a couple more weeks left of 2005, and then we're on to the big 2006. Word. This past year, I made a big deal about getting positive and re-finding myself... this upcomng year, the goal is: to get successful as an artist and to be able to dump my survival job. I'm already starting in a big way.

I have resumed the big Hollywood marketing game -- I sent out a batch of headshots/postcards to some casting directors I 'd really like to meet with -- if you're out there, folks, prepare to keep getting those postcards until you call me in and hire me!
I'm getting pretty serious about this gallery showing, having emailed a number of places, tyring to find a home for my artwork.
I already have three shows lined up for the first few months of the new year - get ready for lots more Greg on stage!
I've got a good feeling about the upcoming 12 months, friends, it's time to get busy.

Left Behind Comin' At Ya!

Booya! This is what I'm talking about! If The Left Behind's first show went up with a boom and sparkle, The Left Behind's second show went up with a roar and a mushroom cloud. The audience was much meatier (though a few straggled in pretty late) and I felt that the entire cast was spot on for most of the night. A much stronger, more awesome show... and hopefully we've won some fans. And hey! We all got paid a little for it.... look, ma! I'm a working actor, and I'm getting paid!

New Book + Photo Shoot!

This week, Katie gave me a fantastic book - Act Now which is so clear and well-written, RE: obtaining success as a working actor... this has gotten me galvanized, getting me organized, and is making me so damn excited about next year!

Also, this afternoon found me on the corner of Sunset and Vermont, participating in a photo shoot with Patrick Ecclesine, mastermind of the upcoming book, Faces Of Sunset. I came home and wrote a lengthy monologue about the pitfalls of driving in LA and hopefully you can all see me in this book that should be out in time for summer of next year to tie in with 225th anniversary of Los Angeles!

First Weekend Of December...

...Brings us a much better turn-out for The Haven's 'A Christmas Carol' -- still not where we want the audience numbers to be, but a marked improvement over last weekend. People are talking, telling their friends -- you guys gotta come out! It's a fantastic show.

And this weekend also showed that Katie and I's baked goods were truly the cream of the crop.

On a side note, today I went to go see The Sophisticated Rogue at the ZJU -- really great show, written by my friend, Bill Norret, and featuring some very talented people (Josh T. Ryan, Cynthia Convey, and Denise Devin to name a few) - go see it!

The Left Behind Opens!

In a disturbing trend, The Left Behind opened tonight at the ZJU to a smallish crowd. :( BUT, the show was good and the people who were there were not afraid to make suggestions, get involved, and have a good time. I felt the cast was pretty comfortable, and more importantly, pretty goddamn funny. Nobori-San even made his own mark on the show with his talented foley from the sound booth. Next week is going to be even better!

A Christmas Carol Opens!

'A Christmas Carol' opened in South Pasadena tonight to a small, but enthusiastic crowd. We sold a suprising amount of baked goods and everyone who came to see the show was delighted by our performances, the gags, and above all, the carolling. Zombie and Denise were there (awesome show of support, guys! Thank you!), and they loved it, but were saddened by the lack of people. Us too. But, hey! It's only the first weekend, things'll pick up!

While on vacation this past week, I got busy on a couple of art projects -- the "I Will Not Work A Desk Job" piece is on it's way and I did some nice touch-ups on the Hooka.

Alice Is Dead

The final showing of Alice is over, I am exhausted and kinda sad that it's done, but not to fear! 'A Christmassy Carol' opens in a mere two weeks! Rehearsals plus the shows have worn me out, but I'm happy doing what I moved here to do.

Also, on a side note, Zombie was kind enough to give me the hooka, so I plan on doing some more detail work on that particular piece.

The Haven Company Meeting

Tonight, I attended my first Haven official company meeting. It's so good to be a part of something that has so much potential, so early in its life. It hearkens back to a few other groups, both succesful (The Left Behind) and not so much (Fast Dexter), so there is a speck of doubt in the back of my mind, but this group, Ashley specifically, is so determined to get this right, to do this, and a big difference here is the amount of people, versus some other prior groups, The Haven is certainly not lacking man power, a point that Ashley currectly pointed out.

I'm currently an unofficial staff member, searching for theater space in the valley... so if anyone reading this has any leads or ideas, I'm always open.

The L.A. Weekly posted a tasty review for 'Alice Works Wonderland' this week, they even gave us the much lauded 'GO!' Good for us! Come see the show before it's too late!

Alice (Rie Sharky), the slacker great-great-granddaughter of the original Victorian Alice, is lured down to Wonderland to save the inhabitants, who are all in danger of being executed by the sexually predatory Queen of Hearts (Jana Wimer, in dominatrix attire and a heart-shaped merkin). A Christmas Carol

Yesterday, rehearsals started for The Haven's 'A Christmas Carol', and while I was initially disappointed with the size of my role, I am looking forward to working with these beautiful people again. It's all worth it. Plus, a new scene was just added for my character today! Hooray!

He gave me his business card and I do intend on dropping some Greg Kaczynski press kits off at my dear regular's office.

Alice Opens!!

This past weekend saw the triumphant opening of "Alice Works Wonderland" in the heart of North Hollywood. Both shows were nearly sold out, and while the Friday night crowd certainly out-rowdied the Saturday crowd (I think they were a little scared), overall the reaction was very positive.

Midsummers closed tonight at the ZJU. Surprisingly, we had a nearly full house on this, our only Sunday show. The show itself was pretty good, a solid ending to an amazing run. I have to admit, though, I'm a little sad. I can't wait for the next Haven venture, I hope, hope, hope that I get to work with these amazing, talented, beautiful people again. Ashley Ward, you are a goddess for bringing this experience into my life.

Alice opens in two weeks.

Showcase

The Actor's Showcase went up last night, everything went well enough, I suppose. My scene was good, I felt good about it... but, my only concern... where was the industry? We paid this lady, Camille, 100 bucks apiece for her to organize this thing and get industry there. As far as I know... I didn't see any industry. I suppose some came as the info packets were gone at the end of the night... most of them. But how many were taken by our friends and family? I don't know, overall, I'm pretty disappointed about the money that I spent. I'm not sure it was well spent at all. Ah well.

Artwork Like Burning

Today, trudging along at the Islands, I couldn't work anymore, I had to go home early. I had been thinking about some adjustments I wanted to make on the clouds/horizons project, and I had some other ideas I wanted to try out for other projects. I got Betsy to move up, and by 2:30, I was on my way out the door.

I headed up to Michael's first where I bought yet another frame... came home, made the adjustments on the cloud project, made a whole new cloud project, and finished up the "OCD" piece. I'm really happy with all of the pieces right now... we'll see how I feel in six hours, but for now, I consider them done.

Now I just need to find the right way to affix the latin to the Boxes and they'll be done. Good times! Getting crap done. Being creative...

Artwork Update

Last night I finished a project that I'd been working out for about a year involving various pictures of horizons and clouds... I'm pretty happy with the result. A friend of Matt's came by on Sunday, saw the prelims and commented on it in a positive fashion.

I also purchased 2 frames yesterday -- one to finally complete the "OCD" project and the other to start work on the dollar flag. The final cigarette box is still waiting to be mounted and expanded upon... I feel like I'm losing some inspiration with that piece.

And, supposedly, Jeff is going to come through with the latin translations I need for the Pin Boxes any day now... I also emailed Ray, but no word from him yet. Damn you, Latin!!!

USC Or Not USC

On the same day that my roommate realizes that he didn't get the CSI job he had hoped to get, I realize that I never received the phone call from Michael Swingler, the USC director. That's too bad, I really enjoyed that audition and would've loved to do that short, little, spicy film.

Ah well, the audition was sweet enough, I suppose.

USC Audition

I just came from an audition at USC involving vampires and prostitutes... actually, involving a vampiric prostitute. I found the audition to be incredibly challenging emotionally (it sounds more ridiculous than it actually is) and, ultimately, very satisfying craftually. The director seemed to like what I did, here's hoping I get this.

Of course, if I do get it, this means next weekend is going to read like this:
